We are excited to share a Letter to Bishop Zubik with you in the hopes you would add your signature to the Letter, and join many others in doing so. Over 90 people in five Focus Groups of Catholics for Change in Our Church (CCOC) worked on the content of the Letter. This included efforts at the gathering of CCOC held at St. Thomas More on Feb. 15. It was a terrific meeting with over 60 people present! A lot of care was put into crafting the letter and sharing their thoughts and passions of many within it. Those of us involved in this endeavor are proud of the work we did, and the result!
Please see the Letter attached. The attachment has four parts. These are:
1. Cover Memo explaining the Letter, how people can be a signer of the letter, and a request for people to get more signatures.
2. Letter to Bishop Zubik
3. Signature Page (blank)
4. List of Focus Groups with date, time, and place of their next meeting
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS AS SOON AS YOU CAN. We hope that you agree with the tone and substance of the Letter, at least enough of it to sign it with me.
And then,
please think of sharing the letter with as many people as you can. Family, friends, fellow parishioners, co-workers—any Catholic you know who cares about the church --- OUR CHURCH! Act today. Act this weekend. Get your effort started, and then carry through in the next two weeks. You can collect actual signatures where it is convenient; or people can sign electronically. This is explained in the Cover Memo.
Please include in those your share the letter native Pittsburghers who have moved away; if they are interested in being a signer (probably electronically), ask them to list the zip code and parish of
where they lived in Pittsburgh, not where they are now.
You could also consider approaching the pastor of your church to ask if you and friends could collect signatures after church the weekend of Feb. 2-3 or Feb. 9-10. If you are interested in doing this, email me and I will share more thoughts and strategy on how you might proceed to be successful.
Thanks for any and all help you give to collecting signatures. If we all make an effort the 1,000 signature goal noted in the Cover Memo is attainable --- maybe we can even much more than that!
