This weekend we celebrate the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary time. All three readings focus on staying vigilant and being prepared. In the first reading from the Book of Wisdom, we read how God’s holy people listen to the word of God and focus on the fore fathers faith on the night of Passover when the people of Israel journeyed from slavery to freedom in a new homeland God had promised. In the Second Reading, in the letter to the Hebrews, we read how Abraham placed his faith and trust in God’s promises and journeyed to a land promised him and his descendants. Knowing not where he was going or what to expect, he put is trust in God. In the Gospel of Luke, we continue reading Jesus’ teaching about possessing worldly goods and being ready for the Second Coming. He uses a parable to teach the importance of choosing the right priorities. He stresses the urgent need to always be alert, watchful, and ready for the Master’s return.
Let us not be fearful, but faithful as we pray for the victims in last week’s shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.
Keep the Faith!
