Last month when I celebrated my Eighteenth Anniversary of Priesthood Ordination, I got together as I do every year with my classmates for a cookout at St. Mary of the Mount Rectory on Mt. Washington where my classmate, Fr. Michael Stumpf is the Pastor. As we sat on the porch having dinner, each of my classmates, Fr. Tony Gargotta, Fr. Terry O’Connor, Fr. Michael Stumpf and Fr. Bob Vular reflected how our ministry has changed over the years. Our other classmate, Fr. Clint Zadroga, who is now a Benedictine Priest at St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, was unable to attend this year due to his current assignment in Savannah Georgia. After dinner, we called Fr. Clint and “Face Timed” him to talk. The Priesthood Class of 2001 has always been a tight knit group and whenever we get together we share many stories and all of the ups and downs and challenges of being a priest. I love being a priest!
This weekend we celebrate the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this weekend focus on being called and sent out to preach and teach.
In the first reading from Isaiah, we read how the prophet Isaiah instructs us to rejoice because the Lord assures us he will extend prosperity and comfort. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus calls seventy-two disciples to share in his ministry of healing and proclaiming the Kingdom of God. The harvest is plenty, the laborers are few. Jesus has already begun his final journey to Jerusalem and to Calvary. The Lord of the harvest wants every one of us out in the field, taking hold of countless opportunities there to witness God’s presence in the stories of our lives. Let us answer the Lord’s call by traveling the road lightly, shedding the excess baggage of sin and worry, and depending on God to complete the great work he has begun in us.
Shalom!
Summer Daily Mass Join us for daily Mass Monday thru Saturday at St. Bede at 9am. We also have the Miraculous Medal Novena on Mondays, the Mother of Perpetual Help Novena on Wednesdays and St. John XXIII Novena for the Sick on Thursdays. Eucharistic Adoration and Confessions are on Saturdays at St. Bede from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.
It’s Summer! Since we are now in the Summer Season, the weather can be quite warm. Please note that with three churches in our grouping, you’re most welcome to attend mass at any of the three campuses. Since everyone has different body temperatures, some people like the warmth and some people like it cool. The St. Bede Church does have air conditioning for those who prefer a cooler environment. Please continue to support your parish financially so we can provide air conditioning in the summer and keep up with the cost of repairs and landscaping.
New Mass Schedule Effective July 20Thank you to all who participated in our Mass survey. Over 430 people completed the survey. As of Saturday, July 20, the new Mass schedule will be:
Saturday Vigil 4:00 pm St. James
5:30 pm St. Bede
Sunday 8:00 am St. Bede
9:00 am Mother of Good Counsel
10:00 am St. James
11:00 am St. Bede
CCD- Religious Education Sundays 9:45 am-10:45am St. Bede
Parish Improvements Construction continues on our St. Bede School STREAM LAB. Six classrooms on the ground floor are being renovated and data cables and IT equipment are being installed.
Welte Roofing continues to do repairs to the St. Bede Rectory Roof. Funds from Our Campaign for the Church Alive are making this project possible.
Welcome A special warm welcome to
Emilia Diego; Daniel, Kaitlyn, and
Cecilia Musser; and
Michael and
Rose Pascal who recently registered at CCEEP.
Are you Registered Every Catholic needs a place to call “home.” If you are attending Mass here at CCEEP on a regular basis and not officially registered, please pick up a registration form in the back of the church or contact one of the three offices. It is very important to be registered at a parish in order to receive envelopes and to obtain sponsor letters to be a Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor.
Something to Think About… Are we ready to be Christians full time, showing our commitment by word and deed?
