Sanctuary Project for Peace, you did it! Through our amazing partnerships with each other, we saved 1,000 lives today - many of them our Wilkinsburg neighbors! Thank you to all who worked so hard to recruit people in your social service agencies and congregations and all who volunteered with enthusiasm today. We are utterly exhausted in the flesh but over-joyed in our spirit!
This has been a God-thing from the very beginning when Elder Carol Calloway sounded the call from God at a Wilkinsburg Sanctuary Project for Peace meeting." With Pastor Janet's contact with the Jewish Community Center, we were put in touch with the amazing Dr. Elizabeth Miller who brought us to the Community Collaboration for Vaccines (a partnership of the Resiliency Project and Black Empowerment). Hosanna House graciously offered their beautiful facilities! Then UPMC came alongside us as our vaccine partners. All of us worked hard to sign up over 1,000 of our neighbors!
Special thanks to Hosanna House who not only provided their building but paid for several staff who have worked tirelessly to make this event possible.
A Halleluia Shout to Ethnan Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church for being the first congregation to get their sign up sheets to the registration process and for hosting the outstanding LiveStream on Vaccine Information this past Wednesday.
The Wilkinsburg Police Department provided security and pitched in to help with wheelchairs and whatever was needed.
Mad Dads helped direct cars, Their presence is always a gift to us.
The Jewish Community Center made hundreds of follow up phone calls at the last minute and provided many of our community volunteers today. Their enthusiasm was contagious. And it is the first day of Passover this evening!
St. James Social Service Ministry of the St. Mary Magdalene Parish donated their van and their wonderful van driver to pick up folks who could not get Access.
Councilwoman Paige Trice who worked with us and continues to work to bring the vaccine into our senior high rises.
Special thanks to the fearless team which worked to make this clinic happen: Elder Carol Calloway (Christian Church of Wilkinsburg), Rev. Thomas Mitchell (Covenant Church of Pittsburgh), Steve Hellner-Burris (Hosanna House), Pastor Jerome Hurst (Ethnan Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church). Also, Bishop Michael Golphin (Deliverance Baptist Church) who staffed the Will Call Table today.
Partnerships, Partnerships, Partnerships! This is how we change the world and save lives.
Well done peacemakers!
Pastor Janet
