MIDDLE SCHOOL LENTEN SERVICE PROJECT Sister Thea Bowman Catholic Academy is participating in a Lenten Service Project that will benefit UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Child Life Department. The Child Life Department uses play and expressive arts to help meet the developmental, psychosocial, emotional, and educational needs of our patients. These experiences and opportunitiescan help children to cope and adjust to illness and hospitalization. STBCA is having their second $2 dress down day this week. The proceeds will go towards purchasing toys and/or gift cards from the “wish list” to support the children who are in the hospital. Once both dress down days have occured, the donations from both days will be calculated. A letter with a list will be written to let our students, parents and staff know what we have been able to provide for these children through this service project. We welcome donations from parishioners for this worthwhile cause as well - if you would like to donate, please visit the school office.
SERVICE PROJECT STBCA Middle School is sponsoring a service project to collect tabs from your favorite beverages. These will be donated to The Ronald McDonald House. This is an organization that supports the families of children who are seriously ill by providing extended lodging free of charge while their children are receiving treatment. Tabs will be collected by homeroom teachers and collected by the Middle School Students. A container for them will also be conveniently located in the school’s office. Feel free to ask your neighbors and extended family members to support our efforts. We will begin this with this with the first donation and continue through the rest of the school year. In the words of Sr. Thea Bowman “
I find that when I am involved in the business of life, when I'm working with people, particularly with children, I feel better. A kind of strength and energy comes with that.
