This weekend we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Easter. In the First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we read how Paul and Barnabas continue their travels preaching the gospel. They face many hardships but accept the challenge preaching the word of God. In the Second Reading from the Book of Revelation we read how the world of suffering and death is no more. It has been replaced by a holy and new Jerusalem. God will always be with the people. In the Gospel of John we read how Jesus commands us to love another. This gospel is within the context of the Last Supper. Judas has been identified as one who will betray Jesus. Judas abruptly leaves the meal giving Jesus an opportunity to reflect on what has just happened.
Having focused on his glorification and that of his Father, he turns his attention to his disciples and prepares them for the coming hour. After telling them that he will be with them only a little while longer, he gives them clear instructions on how they are to live in his absence. Throughout his ministry, Jesus showed his love through his teaching and signs of compassion.
The most tangible sign of discipleship is the love Jesus' disciples have for one another. If there is a person in our life that challenges us to love or forgive them, let us ask God to bring us peace, patience, and clarity to them. Let us commit to love of God and love of neighbor!
Love One Another!
Parish Improvements I am pleased to announce that we have added a St. Francis de Sales statue to St. Bede Church near the St. Therese statue. This statue has been in my personal storage for the past year, and I have decided to put it in St. Bede Church for people to enjoy. St. Francis is very near and dear to my heart as I love to write. He is the patron saint of Catholic writers, journalists and adult education.
